Deaf Day Highlights
With more than 200 participants, from all over Cambodia, Deaf Day on Saturday was a huge success and great finale for International Week of the Deaf in Cambodia. We started out in the morning with three theatrical performance, one from each of the DDP locations – Kampong Cham, Kampot, and Phnom Penh. Each performance addressed a different topic selected by the Deaf community in that province. The remainder of the morning included activity booths where participants could have their hair braided, make a craft, learn to tie a tie, or have a souvenir picture taken – just to name a few. There was also a special magic/comedy show from two Maryknoll Lay Missioners. In the afternoon, Epic Arts performed three of their pieces and then everyone had an opportunity to dance to close out the celebration. A special thanks to all those who came out to support the events throughout the week including Krousar Thmey, the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation, IndoChina Starfish Foundation (ISF), Komar Pikar Foundation, Maryknoll, and Love 146. Happy Deaf Awareness Month to all!
